During English lessons we deliver a creative, enjoyable, engaging and interactive approach to learning. Children learn better when they are excited and engaged. We investigate our units which range from poetry, plays, non fiction and fiction and we follow the format of 'engage, explore and create.'
EYFS/Key Stage 1
In English we will be focusing on phonic work following our 'Read, Write, Inc scheme'. Children will also have a weekly 'Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar' lesson. Every Friday we use 'The Power of reading' project and study books. Our follow up to the book involves us writing in different genres and developing our early comprehension skills. Our genre focus' for this term are traditional stories and imaginary stories. We will also write from experience and look at poetry.
Key Stage 2
All Juniors are taking part in 'The Power of Reading project' and we write in different genres linked to the books we are studying. The genre focus for Spring Term is narrative, stories and playscripts. We also have a weekly Comprehension session. Weekly spelling, punctuation and grammar sessions will help improve our individual skills.
Year 3 and 4
Our extended writing sessions will focus on 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' by JK Rowling and 'The Magic finger' by Roald Dahl'.
Year 5 and 6
We will be studying Michael Morpurgos 'Kensuke's kingdom' and 'A boy and a bear in a boat' by Dave Shelton.
