Forest Schools

Forest School sessions provide children with the opportunity to explore and experience the natural world through practical activities in the outdoors. This helps to promote confidence, independence and self esteem. Also by using resources available in the wood and the children's interest, we hope to stimulate imagination, creativity and enquiry skills.

All children in our school will have two half terms of weekly learning in the forest (weekly two hour session). This takes place at woodland at Torpenhow and is led and organised by our forest leader, Mrs Jenny Lee. Jenny has an accredited forest leader qualification.

Last term our Year 3 and 4 children carried out an archaeological dig in the woods, linked to their studies in English of the story  'Stone age boy'. They also made jewellery and soup and played hunting games.

We have an annual forest school's assembly so parents can find out more about the learning programme. It also gives children an opportunity to share what they have been learning. Since we are the only 'Forest School' in our local cluster of schools we organised a forest schools experience for these schools. Year 6's from all of the schools attended this in the Summer term.
